I think Gmail Offline (with Gears) is brilliant. I've got lots of stuff in my Gmail account which I regularly want to look up, from contacts to purchase references, etc. However I do not need my current mails constantly to be available offline. Also, I am in a country where flatrate internet access is still a dream (South Africa), so I have a monthly data cap.

I would like to operate Gmail offline on a schedule, say run an update only once a week over night or such, instead of constantly. From the help section it appears that if I turn off Offline Gmail it will delete the local files, therefore, to selectively turn Offline-Gmail on and off seems not an option.

Please advise. Thanks a lot Sabine
