Is there a USB soundcard with Linux support and 192 kHz sampling rate?

It's pretty hard to find one..

Most humans can't hear anything finer than 32-bit/96KHz anyway. – Chris S Sep 7 '10 at 13:13

Doesn't mean that there's no reason to have a higher sampling frequency though. – Ignacio Vazquez-Abrams Sep 7 '10 at 13:17
@Chris S: 192kHz is required for VLF antenna. Still, your statement isn't correct as human is able to perceive much higher frequencies.. informaworld.com/smpp/content~db=all~content=a786762340 – sorki Sep 7 '10 at 14:34

Sound Frequencies and Sampling Frequencies are extremely different things. Transmissions in the VLF range will reach a max around 30K symbols per second; and depending on the encoding, possibly a higher baud. A higher resolution ADC would make it easier to capture, but anything in the 90KHz+ range should be able to capture the signal. There's people using 44KHz capture for frequencies up to ~20KHz. – Chris S Sep 7 '10 at 17:23

Yes, there is: Native Instruments AUDIO KONTROL 1. There are several others, but when I was looking for a decent sound card about 3 months ago, this was the only one, that met my requirements (meaning, it had positive reviews in some audio magazines and works with linux). Other options had to much noise on the input (E-MU 0202), did not work with linux (M-Audio) or were way overpriced for what I wanted...

Our final choice was Asus Xonar D2 which works perfectly for a decent price.

What about devices that can do 192kHz through USB class 2 audio, with current ALSA stable's USB class 2 audio support? All things being equal, it's nice if the manufacturer actually supports Linux, but some people can't afford to care. =)

Can you give an example of such card? Thanks – sorki Jul 30 '11 at 11:52
For instance, the Ayre QB-9 – rakslice Aug 9 '11 at 20:11
