I just installed Xubuntu. And don't know which file be executed - ( example: Windows uses .exe OR .com to indicate executable files).

So what type of games can it run ?

this makes little to no sense. Are you trying to ask how you run windows games on linux ? if so, explore "wine". exe and com files are windows executable files and wont execute in linux natively. – Sirex Sep 10 '10 at 10:27

Please don't downvote a guy for his English skills! Not all of you are Americans, you know! – Torben Gundtofte-Bruun Sep 10 '10 at 11:36
@torb - I agree that the downvotes don't help in this case, but the post does need improving by the OP - Are they asking about executable files types? Compatibilities? Are they intending to install a Windows game on Linux, and run it? Are they trying to do find somewhere to get Linux games from? Are they trying to convert Windows's EXEs to Linux? The question is too vauge and ambiguous; we don't know what the OP is actually wanting. – DMA57361 Sep 10 '10 at 12:09
@dma, that's exactly what we should be asking Jayesh to specify, rather than rudely downvoting him immediately. – Torben Gundtofte-Bruun Sep 10 '10 at 12:41

I'd submit that there is a difference between an unclear question that is written in good english but hides the point by meandering, and an unclear question that is direct but written in poor english. – Babu Sep 10 '10 at 13:54

It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form. See the FAQ for guidance on how to improve it.

From the Applications menu open the Software Center. The games category has a large selection of free games running natively on Linux.

Running Windows games on Linux is an iffy proposition because Linux isn't Windows. However, Wine supports quite a few games. You can install Wine from the Software Center.

Install games:

Applications -> Ubuntu Software Center -> Games

Installed games available at:

Applications -> Games

Note, however, Linux is not the gaming platform. Consider moving away from Linux to Windows if the purpose of your Linux interest is gaming, or you may end up playing the snake or arkanoid :)

Linux does not run any .exe files by itself. In Ubuntu, and I'm assuming Xubuntu is the same with this, can run a virtual machine of windows, which means that you can actually run games within the linux distribution. However, this is definitely not the optimal way to do this. If you are wanting to play graphic intense games, then having a dual boot of the linux and windows is your best bet.

Linux can run most .NET .exe files with Mono, but that's just picking. – Ignacio Vazquez-Abrams Sep 10 '10 at 14:17

And if you're hopelessly addicted to Windows games there's always Cedega and CrossOver Games.

If you're trying to run Windows games, forget it. Ubuntu is not a gamer's dream OS. Yes, it's amazing and has everything, but it won't run your games that are built for Windows.

Also, no huge, big-brand game maker publishes Linux versions of their games.
