Are there any open source apps out there for the Mac which allow me to make a video of the contents of the desktop or just a single app?

I've seen SnapzPro and Screenflow but since I have to capture video infrequently I can't justify the cost of getting one of these apps.

You can just use QuickTime to record it and then convert with FFmpeg to whatever format you choose. – kizzx2 Apr 21 '11 at 18:02

I love AlternativeTo for this purpose.

And from that list, ScreenToaster is my favorite.
