Are there PC monitors which are e-ink displays? E-ink is so much easier to read documents on that I'd rather like a secondary monitor just for documents, but I can't find any monitors available currently.

Perhaps just an e-reader with some kind of remote control from a PC, so that it can be put in a cradle and display a document, but it would also need to have a fairly large screen to make it practical (perhaps something like A4 (EU) or Letter (US) sized?)

I totally agree that there is a huge demand from students, programmers and office workers. I am typing this from a windows pc, having switched on the accessibility option for white text on black background. It is much easier on the eyes, the usual white background almost gives me epilepsy. But the accessibility mode is not compatible with all programs. A monitor with a dual option that can be switched from normal to e-ink mode would be my salvation. There is a HUGE demand. Hundreds of millions of office workers and students who stare at a screen all day and don't need fast refresh rates, and do things like wordprocessing, programming etc. which don't require more than e-ink has to offer. It's time the industry stopped demo-ing these things at trade shows, and released them for the public to buy. The industry stands to earn billions, but are too stupid to realize this. – user58788 Feb 2 '11 at 11:13

Prototypes of what you describe have been at trade shows for a year or so, but I'm not aware that they have been released for public consumption yet.

It sounds like the limitation right now is with the color displays. The monochrome displays are obviously out and working fine, but the color displays are still being worked on. It's unlikely there would be a wide market for a monochrome monitor, even if it is a new technology like e-paper.

I don't care wether it bends or has color. I just want to read (and ideally annotate) papers, books and other documents comfortably. But still nothing. Any news? – Raphael Apr 4 '11 at 20:53
