I use a brand new iMac to connEct to the web via a netgear router. As of last night I cant make a connection to the web. I've tried rebooting and unplugging everything (router, modem, computer. Nothing worked. I get a connection to the router but I can't use that connection to get on the web.

The router uses dhcp so I thought it might be an ip address conflict so I set up a static route at 192.168.1.64 and configured my airport to connect on that ip. No luck. I can't even get a connection to my default gateway in the browser. I get no response despite my bars being full. All of my roommates can browse the web just fine on their pcs. I can't test an Ethernet connection without lugging my computer all the way downstAirs. Pls help. I had to type this whole thing on my iPod!

Did netgear release some kind of firmware update that screwed up my configuration?

What other information can I provide to make this an easier problem to solve

If you didn't install a firmware update (and I assume you would know if you did), then that's not your problem. I've never heard of a router with automatic silent firmware upgrades. – Velociraptors Sep 17 '10 at 1:54
Well ok then that's not the problem. This is inexplicable. I cant get my blagz. – Adam Sep 17 '10 at 2:10

@Velociraptors broadband modems, including those with built-in Wi-Fi routers, when provided by your broadband ISP, can be silently upgraded by your ISP via DOCSIS (for cable modems) or TR-069 (for DSL and, I believe, FTTH modems). – Spiff Sep 17 '10 at 2:20
The modem is a Docsis 3.0 modem installed by comcast for a high bandwidth (up to 50Mbps) connection. – Adam Sep 17 '10 at 2:40
I've searched all over the web for forums on this... I can't find too many similar issues out there, either documented by hardware manufacturers or on forum sites. In situations that seemed similar, there were no solutions. – Adam Sep 17 '10 at 2:42
