I just bought a new PC with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Everything is peachy except Bioshock: it has no sound after the game starts.

I've searched on Google but can't find a definitive answer; or else the definitive answer doesn't work.

I tried changing the configuration file to use a different sound output system.

I tried using compatibility mode.

Nothing seems to work. The game worked well for me on Vista.

Any suggestions?

Do you have sound in other applications ? – Chris Sep 21 '10 at 17:59
have you installed the game with all extras? i.e. directx. I just got different problems with some games because I didn´t install directx from the game setup. even if you allready have installed it always install the version from the specific game setup too. – Diskilla Sep 21 '10 at 18:05

How is this not on-topic? I have software, which is not working. I am not asking for help playing the game! – Mr. Shiny and New 安宇 Sep 21 '10 at 19:52
@Chris: sound works fine everywhere else including my other games. – Mr. Shiny and New 安宇 Sep 21 '10 at 19:54
Try gaming.stackexchange.com. If the question was not about a game it would be allowed, however, using the same argument you do, when gaming question are closed people point to this and say why wasn't that one closed. Honestly, we have better things to do then defend why or why not, closing it is the simplest solutions. And well, there is a gaming SE site anyway. – Diago Sep 22 '10 at 12:17

Questions on Super User are expected to generally relate to computer software or computer hardware, within the scope defined in the faq.

Reinstall sound and video drivers. Run the direct-x setup that comes with the game. Make sure you are using a legit version of the game and not a pirated version, as the pirated version could contain errors or glitches.

And lastly make sure the game is not being muted by the windows sound mixer.
