I've tried to hook up my Macbook pro to my HDTV, but my MBP won't recognize the external display. I've read that you should first power down your MBP then connect it to the external display and then power it back up. Even the tech on the apple care web site suggested for me to try that. I did and it still didn't work. Any suggestions would be helpful at this point.

Its a samsung 46 in 630 lcd tv. I'm using a mini dvi to hdmi adapter coming out my late 2009 15 inch mbp that im usin snow leopard 10.6.4. It works on and off. Mostly after a few restarts. – user50582 Oct 7 '10 at 1:58
