I upgraded to outlook 2010 recently and my google desktop search stopped working. I notice google desktop hasn't had a release since Version 1.6.0.1552 (9/30/2008). Anyone know if its a dead project?

PS: what are my alternatives on xp for desktop search, aside from windows search latest release whose for xp was also 2008?

Google has more or less deprecated (de-emphasized) the search capabilities of Google Desktop for a while. (Given that Windows 7 & Vista have built in search, there's really no reason to develop a stand-alone search product) Here's a great blogpost describing the situation: http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2010/09/10-reasons-why-google-desktop-will-be.html

For searching outlook, I'd recommend either Copernic or Windows Desktop Search, or perhaps xobni http://www.xobni.com/

Google probably hasn't updated it recently because they've been busy with Android, Chrome, and other newer projects.

I thought Windows Search was newer than 2008, but Microsoft might be neglecting the XP version since they have the feature built-in on Vista and 7. The only other alternative I can think of is Copernic Desktop Search. I haven't used it in a while, but it looks like they're keeping it up-to-date, and last time I used it, it was pretty good.

X1 is a non-free alternative. – Dennis Williamson Sep 29 '10 at 16:21
