What is the next version of VirtualBox. Is it 3.3.0?
And when will it be released?

Where can I check this?

Unfortunately I've been unable to find any roadmap for VirtualBox, which is a massive shame as it would be very useful. You can't blame Oracle as when VB was a Sun programe there was no list either.

You can have a look my virtualbox forum thread asking the same thing to see if you can gleam any more info.

I believe the last milestone release was 3 - the main version number.

As for the next one, I see no reference to it, however if you want the latest code, you can check out their development server located at http://www.virtualbox.org/svn/vbox/trunk

I'm just a user, so don't want the lastest codes. I just want to know when the next version will be released. I hope it will be soon. Thanks Wil. – Benjamin Sep 30 '10 at 13:12

VirtualBox is open source software, and open source software generally doesn't go in for big milestone updates. Instead of an update once every 18 months or so with a lot of changes and new features, projects like virtualbox continually update the product as often as every few weeks, such that improvements seem to come more gradually. The main linux kernel, for example, has been in the 2.6 series for nearly five years, but has seen tremendous improvements in that time. It may never go to 3.0. VirtualBox did have a recent jump from 3.1.x to 3.2.x, but it may similarly never go to 4.0.

Did I misunderstand the word 'milestone'? I think '3.2.x to 3.3.x' can be a milestone.(or roadmap). So, doesn't VBox have a roadmap page? like this. netbeans.org/community/releases/roadmap.html Thanks Joel. – Benjamin Sep 30 '10 at 13:36
VirtualBox is not entirelyl Open Source. There is an Open Source edition and a proprietary edition from Oracle (formerly Sun). The proprietary version has features missing from the OSE. – CarlF Sep 30 '10 at 15:35
