I'm looking for a software that allows me to:

  • Block unwanted calls based on a black list
  • Record calls
  • Keep a log of the phone activity

Is there a software for that?

If such is available, it would be highly dependent on where you are and which phone company you're using and what type of service you're subscribing to. Unless you mean that you want to connect your POTS (or VOIP) line to a computer. Then it would still depend to some extent on the aforementioned factors plus what OS you're using and whether you're willing to dedicate a computer solely to that function and what kind of modem or other interface you'd connect your line to. I forgot to mention that the number of lines involved is another consideration. – Dennis Williamson Oct 1 '10 at 1:33

Asterisk. You can get started with AsteriskNOW, which claims to install everything in less than 30 minutes and comes with a GUI. If you use a VOIP Provider, you don't even need an analog POTS card.

  1. You can block numbers on a blacklist.
  2. Record calls.
  3. It keeps logs (CDRs).

If a Linux box to host Asterisk is out of the question, how about Skype? You can:

  1. Block contacts.
  2. Record Calls.
  3. View call history.

With a home phone adapter you can use a conventional (POTS) home phone.

Google Voice will let you do all three of those things. But as Dennis said, we really need to know what it is you're trying to accomplish.

Tell us your goal, and we're less likely to lead you astray.
