Now that the Windows 7 RTM is available (on Technet) has anyone performed an upgrade from the RC (build 7100) to the RTM?

Second question, does the RTM build expire, just like the RC build?

[EDIT] So far only 1 (one) person reported a successfull inplace upgrade. I'm sure there are many more out here who tried this.

[EDIT] Following the steps by The How-To Geek I've succesfully upgraded my RC to RTM. It did take much longer than I anticipated though but the end result was good.

I've been able to successfully upgrade from RC to RTM. All you have to do is a little hack, which I wrote up here:

How to Upgrade the Windows 7 RC to RTM (Final Release)

Officially, you aren't supposed to do it, and normally you'll see this error:

@Diago - yeah, actually in the bottom of my article I mentioned that you should really do a clean install =) The question was whether it works or not, which it does. – The How-To Geek Aug 7 '09 at 13:53

Officially Microsoft does not support in-place upgrades of Windows 7 RTM to RC. This was highlighted as part of the limitations when downloading the RC.

Per the official FAQ here on upgrading to RTM

When you install the final version of Windows 7, you'll need to do a 
clean installation. So plan on backing up your data then reinstalling 
your applications and restoring your data.

The edition available on TechNet is the Retail RTM and will allow 30 days of running before requiring activation with a valid key. TechNet subscribers are provided keys along with the download, same with MSDN subscribers.

just to add that the RTM install doesnt allow inplace - i tried today.

It tells you if you try that this is not allowed.

It can be done, but requires that you copy all filles off the installation disk to the HDD so one file can be edited prior to install. Here's a detailed link. Seek the knowledge!
