The pin programs to the taskbar is nifty, but I miss my old quicklaunch bar.
How do I get a quick launch bar in Windows 7 like XP had ?

Actually by "pinning" your applications to the taskbar you have the same functionality as the 'old quicklaunch bar'. Or am I missing something? OTOH, by reading this question, i realise that you have to click 2 times if you've put a shortcut to a document in the taskbar (which isn't the same behaviour as the old style quick launch bar). But that question has an answer which describes how to enable that again. |

You can easily get the Quick Launch bar back with a simple configuration change. I've put together a walk-through guide to doing so. Add the Quick Launch Bar to the Taskbar in Windows 7

a bit OT, but here's a neat trick get a functional recycle bin icon on your taskbar (by way of the quick launch bar):
You're done! All that's left to do is to grab the slider and place the toolbar where you want it, and shut off the title and text labels if you want a seamless look. To do that, right-click the slider and untick show title and show text. and credits to Lee M. @ downloadsquad.com for this nice find. |

Right click taskbar > Toolbars > Links Drag 'n drop shortcuts directly into Links. Use Links like an old-style quicklaunch with too many icons in it. |

The other methods listed will allow you to put the quick launch bar back on the start menu, but that still isn't the same as XP's in that you can't move it off the taskbar as a floating window or dock it to a side somewhere. My workaround so far has been to use ObjectDock. |
