I am using windows7 64 bit on my one month old Intel i3 core-powered laptop. Since last one week, I have noticed a weird problem where certain graphics features seem to slow down considerably at times - e.g, if I minimize a window, the movement of the window towards the taskbar is very slow.. I can actually see the window getting minimized and it takes 1-2 seconds. Likewise, if I click something on the taskbar, the maximizing is also slow. In general, all motion of windows and dialog boxes is slow, even if I open a folder, the new window displays slowly.

Some more observations -

  1. These problems usually go away if I reboot.
  2. If I go to performance options and select the high performance-low quality setting, the problem goes away partially (see next point)
  3. Even games are slow. e.g I click the move left key and the game character would start moving only after 1-2 seconds. Somehow, this still remains the same even if I select high performance option in the 2nd point above. But it runs fine if I reboot (point 1).

I hope I was able to explain it well enough.. Any ideas? (Graphics card is ATI Radeon Mobility Radeon HD 5650)

Can we get exact make and model of the laptop? Other hardware may very well be relevant here, ESPECIALLY hard drive and memory. How much free space is on the hard disk as well? – Shinrai Oct 15 '10 at 14:48
