Where I study I was offered the possibility of partecipating into the msdn-aa program and so be able to download and install Windows 7 Professional (English / French) free of charge. However, even if I took the english install cd and the main user interface (and the system) are in english, it happens that each time an application tries to install itself, it wants to be installed in french. That's a bit of a pain, because some times it doesn't even let you choose the language in which to install that particular application. This problem howeve doesn't happen on my another pc, which is running (OEM) Windows 7 Home Prfemium in italian, where applications want to install themselves in italian or in "worst" case english. I'm quite sure english and french are not that much alike (are they ?), but why does it happen ? Why only in french ? Is there any solution to it ? I tried to google for something like "Windows 7 english detected as french" but no good results came up, so I chose to ask the fastest community on the net for some advices. Thank you very much.

That maybe depends on your local/timezone settings? My English Windows 7 installation will install programs as German because I set my locale and time zone to Austria/GMT+1 – slhck Oct 15 '10 at 20:39
Mmm ... interesting ... I thought that locale in windows would only influence the way of representing some strings, date, etc. Well, thank you for the hint, tomorrow I'll try to change locale to english or italian as well and if it works I'll let you know. – user51166 Oct 15 '10 at 20:45
