I have a desktop computer that has issues booting. It is on right now and running fine. If I were to fully power it down and then immediately power it on the fans would briefly make noise (less than one second) and then everything would go silent silent. An orange light would flash on and off until I pulled the plug or held the power button in for 5 seconds.

After shutting down, if I try to turn it on at any point in the next 10 or so minutes it does the same thing. Usually, after letting it rest it will boot normally just fine. Once on it has no problems. I'm fairly sure this is a faulty power supply but I thought I would ask the experts before spending money on a new one. Any thoughts?

I agree, this sounds like a power supply issue – MaQleod Oct 18 '10 at 5:07
Dustynachos: could you identify the computer model, and if possible, the motherboard model. – Rolnik Oct 23 '10 at 13:38
