I have a 2003 vintage Dell Inspiron 8600 Laptop that's been serving me well. Facing facts, it's approaching the end of its useful life cycle. Looking at the spectacular advertising at Dell, one would think that improvements would have been made to the state of the art in the past seven years... or that things would have at least held steady. However these displays are "900p", which I'm assuming means ~1500 x 900. I assume because Dell doesn't seem to be so upfront with screen resolution today. I would not consider this to be an improvement compared to 1920 x 1200. Am I missing something? Does anybody offer a 1920 x 1200 (or better) laptop and is it worth it?

Very few vendors (Apple, mostly) still offer a wide selection of 16:10 displays, most have gone the 16:9 way. Therefore you'll mostly get only 1920x1080. The Dell Precision M4500 (European/German Dell website) offers this resolution. As for the pro/cons, these are entirely subjective. – Daniel Beck Oct 23 '10 at 16:06
