I am looking for a method or application which allows me to find out which hosts are generating to much network traffic, if there is any existing way to unveil these. I am a host in the LAN as well, do not have access to any network devices such as routers or switches. The network itself is a wireless LAN, accessible by a password-protected browser start site just like in Starbucks, for instance. I am on Windows 7 x86.

Someone is using the internet connection for downloading in the rush hours, I am looking for an elegant way to identify him. I had a software before to generate a map of the IP addresses within the IP range of the router, and to name the active hosts. I hope there is an existing solution to monitor their traffic as well.

Thanks for your answers in advance!

How much is too much? This question seems fairly subjective to me. – joeqwerty Oct 27 '10 at 16:40
Too much is simply significantly more than by the others. I am trying to figure out who is the "heavy user" in our LAN. That's why I am looking for a solution to compare the generated network traffic host by host. – cygnus Oct 28 '10 at 6:45
