I want to perform system recovery on a HP Pavilion dv5t with Windows Vista Home Premium.

However, after completing some steps when it restarted, it shows a blank screen.

During system recovery, I see the following steps:

  1. PRE PININST
  2. Pre install software installer
  3. PRE PININST 2
  4. Pre install software installer 2
  5. POST PININST
  6. AC Power checking
  7. Burn boot

After performing steps 1 and 2, the system reboots, then I see a blank screen. I see the hard disk doing an operation, but the screen stays blank for hours.

I ran a primary hard disk test and memory test, both passed.

How can I fix this?

Sounds to me like your computer might be missing its recovery partition, deleting it makes it so that its impossible to restore you computer. Not too sure just an opinion – Arch Angel Oct 28 '10 at 10:23
I tried even with the Recovery DVDs which I created earlier. Even then the recovery partition will be used? – Nag Oct 28 '10 at 10:32
How much time it takes for a Vista system recovery? – Nag Oct 28 '10 at 10:33
