I have pentium 4 3Ghz and 3Gb RAM, Riva TNT2 nvidia graphics adapter. Im playing video with linux console player mplayer. How can i determine an enough computer architecture for a good performance of mkv files ? IT plays good, but sometimes, when in the movie alot of actions, i see some A-V sync errors, and then when picture became slower, everything ok again. Need advice.

The container has nothing to do with quality, other than what codecs it can handle. – Ignacio Vazquez-Abrams Nov 3 '10 at 18:18
The contents of the MKV file matters - requirements for a 320x240@10FPS file will be different from a 1080p60 one. Location of the file also matters - local high speed disk or streaming across an 802.11b network (for example). – Cry Havok Nov 3 '10 at 18:21
