I just changed to a router from the BT business one that had a gateway of gateway.2wire.net.

With the new router, I now cannot access the linux machines on the network using the "hostname" syntax but instead have to use "hostname.local" Is there something I can change to fix this?

The router is a Buffalo AirStation.

Thanks

is the domain parameter set on the linux hosts?...probably some tweaking to be done in how they handle the router's dhcp requests. i haven't used Buffalo before, but there may be an option for default domain search path... – aking1012 Nov 5 '10 at 15:35
I'm not sure how I would check if the domain parameter has been set? As for the Router, it offers some options for setting hostname and domain (and says some ISP's may require these). I tried setting them to "local" but that didn't stop me having to use hostname.local to find a system on the network. – Hamid Nov 7 '10 at 23:05
