Has anybody published any stories on large scale (100,000+ seats) corporate migrations from Windows XP to Windows 7? I work for a megacorp and am not directly involved in such things, but am curious as to what the impact has been in other organizations, how long it has typically taken, what problems have been encountered, etc.

From what I have read the biggest problem is applications written to run in IE6, that will not run in IE8, this is the biggest reason large and medium corporations are not migrating very quickly to W7, they have to rewrite all the web apps and this is not trivial or cheap to do. – Moab Nov 13 '10 at 16:53
This is a really really really broad question. Plus this is the Internet. There are lots of lots of stories out there. Anecdotal evidence would not be what I base a multi million dollar operation on. Rather, I'd get some real statistics. There is a whole package (The Microsoft Application Compatability Toolkit) comes in handy before and after deployment. Another company's story may or may not even mirror your deployment. In general, I hope more and more businesses base their decisions on first person observations and not secondary sources for such a massive operation. – surfasb Jul 28 '11 at 1:17
As I stated, I am not directly involved in this migration, I am just curious. I also couldn't find any directly relevant stories, so if you have some links I'd still be interested. – jl6 Sep 5 '11 at 19:43
