Possible Duplicates:
Need decent undelete utility for Windows
Best undelete tool for NTFS/FAT?

I've got suckered into one of those jobs no one wants - a relative I can't say no to has asked to see if I can recover some files he's deleted.

Well, he's actually been dumb enough to put his system restore disk in the computer.

I promised (like the sucker I am) to give it a try, although I explained that if his disk has been formatted, recovering files is an unlikely outcome.

So, I'd love to hear about people's experience with file recovery software. Software recommendations please ?!

Depending on the formatting the data isn't lost at all... In fact most windows restore/installation disks only do the quick format which just creates a partition. – KronoS Nov 13 '10 at 18:38

I recommend TestDisk or PhotoRec. PhotoRec can rescue many kind of files from deleted partition. And TestDisk can rescue or repair partitions. But you should know that any software cannot rescue all files.

O&O File Recovery. One of my drives is messed so hard, that writing an own recovery tool seems to be only a solution.
