I have 80 GB IDE external disk in an USB enclosure. This disk is detected and file system mounted in Win XP 64 bit but in 32 Win XP on the same PC the drive is recognised but file system not mounted.

Any chance the drive was formatted ExFat and you haven't updated 32bit WinXP?

Is it shown in disk management (diskmgmt.msc) but doesn't have a drive letter asigned?
