I'll share some benefits and drawbacks of Exchange Server. Benefits: - Integrates well with Active Directory to provide email for users - Robust - won't easily crash - Industry standard - many people have used it for a long time (so it's easier to find assistance) - Scalable - can handle a wide range of users (from a dozen to much more), and hence will grow with your company Drawbacks: - One needs to learn about Exchange prior to extensive use. I would suggest that you ask someone with prior experience of Exchange to help you set it up, just to ensure you have it set up the way you want. Best wishes, Charles

Outlook combined with Exchange offers a lot more than just email. There is Calendars (shared and individual), Scheduling, Tasks, Notes and Contacts (shared and user-specific). It's geared towards business use. Running your own Exchange server for home use is not a good idea, as you would have to keep your server on 24/7, which will use a lot of electricity. Also, Exchange itself is expensive. A better idea would be to get pay for a hosted Exchange service, which you can also get direct from Microsoft as part of BPOS. BPOS users will soon be upgraded to Office 365, which replaces it. For small businesses, another option would be to use Hotmail (free), with your own domain.

If you want to see your work e-mail/contacts/appts while at home, talk to your work's IT department. They may have enabled Outlook Web-access, or Outlook anywhere, or some other method to allow you to connect to the company Exchange Server. Simply (ok, I know its not simple) installing an Exchange server at home is not going to accomplish this.
