I added a second video card to a users PC today to support a 3rd monitor. They are both Nvidia Viddeo cards (8600 and 6200). The 8600 powers two monitors and the 6200 powers one.

Soon after the user encountered PC freezing. This could range from a momentary freeze, to a freeze that could not be resolved without a hard restart.

I ran speedfan and noticed that the PC was running VERY hot the GPU's were at 80c under load. I added a 120mm side fan and got this down to an acceptable level.

However that seemed to make the freezing happen even more. I'm now thinking that this might be a power issue, but I'm not sure how to figure out if this is true or not.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Check your voltage monitors. – Ignacio Vazquez-Abrams Dec 18 '10 at 14:47
Sounds like insufficient power. – BBlake Dec 18 '10 at 16:40
