I use byline on my iPhone and Google Reader on the web, but I'm looking for a decent RSS reader that can 2-way sync with Google Reader, for running disconnected on my MacBook Pro. Any Suggestions?

For what it's worth the next version of NetNewsWire. The developer was actually twittering about his progress on the feature this past week. However as of present (July 15th, 2009) there are no native applications that will sync but there are some that use Adobe Air.

EDIT: As of July 30th, 2009 NetNewsWire 3.2 betas became available at http://nnwbeta.com that contain the ability to sync with Google Reader.

+1 for an actual native app, but currently the only solution for offline on the mac is using Google Gears as Mark stated. – Curtis Tasker Jul 15 '09 at 18:47
I'd heard that was coming. I used to use NetNewsWire on the Mac and my iPhone, but I've got too many feeds and it crashed my iPhone app every time on opening, so I went looking for other solutions. I found NewsFire, that claimed sync, but I think it really only works for "importing" your Google Reader Feeds. – skarin Jul 16 '09 at 14:32
Give Byline(phantomfish.com/byline.html) a try on the iPhone, it syncs with Google Reader and its pretty decent. – Curtis Tasker Jul 16 '09 at 17:38

@chris eventbox apparently supports google reader offline. – Bruce McLeod Jul 24 '09 at 10:19

Not OS X specific but Google Reader supports an offline mode using Google Gears. See here for details.

Scoop is an Adobe Air app that says it supports offline reading and sync with Google Reader.

Gruml is in beta and has just added read only offline support with 2 way sync to come.

Yeah, I knew you could use gears, but I evidently am the only person alive who doesn't really dig Google Reader's interface. I prefer a native app. – skarin Jul 16 '09 at 14:29
See my response on this subject: superuser.com/questions/7615/… With Google Gears, which should "Just Work" in Fluid.app, you'd get what you want. – bbrown Jul 18 '09 at 0:36
Just found this blog entry about de-crapping GR's UI: flingmedia.com/articles/making-google-reader-for-fluid – bbrown Jul 18 '09 at 0:47
Alas, Gears is no longer supported. Someday, html5 will allow offline Google Reader, but nothing works right now. – Ronald Pottol Aug 8 '10 at 19:30

I use Gruml.

It's a native OSX application dedicated to syncing RSS with Google Reader. It's also 100% free.

Event Box works very well for this and is a native Mac application. It is also useful for following other social networking applications such as Facebook and Twitter.

That looks neat, although I am sure they are infringing copyright on Twitteriffic's UI. – Bruce McLeod Jul 24 '09 at 10:18

Times by Acrylic has an interesting interface. I prefer getting my RSS feeds in Mail.app, But it's pretty neat for reading.
