I was wondering if there was a folder syncing software out there that would sync a network (smb) folder to a local folder. There are a few that i have googled:

  • PureSync
  • Allway Sync
  • AJC Sync To name a few.

But the catch is the syncing process stops as soon as the user logs off! I need something that would keep on running as a process without any user login! thanks Cheers

It should start running before a user logs in? Perhaps you could be more clear as to what you're trying to achieve as it's not entirely clear now... – Ivo Flipse Dec 30 '10 at 15:59
no .. it is suppose to be something like this: it should start with system startup .. and run keep on running at all times... without someone having to log in and start the process. – Ali Syed Dec 30 '10 at 16:02

You can use the windows task scheduler to run tasks even when there is no one logged in. You need to use the "run as..." option for the task.

I would guess that at least some of the programs you mentioned have an "unattended mode."

So combine unattended mode with an hourly scheduled task...

This isn't related to SMB but see if DeltaCopy is a suitable solution. It runs as a service so continues to function without a user logged in and it uses rsync for fast transfers and can resume partial transfers. It's also free.
