I'm looking for a powerful laptop that supports 54mm ExpressCard (I'd like to put one of these in). I was looking to buy a Dell Precision M4500 but Dell tell me that their laptops only support the 34mm version.

Is the laptop size relevant to your preferences/needs? – Shinrai Jan 4 '11 at 17:10

While you can fit an ExpressCard/34 into an ExpressCard/54 slot, you can't do so vice-versa. As such, for your case, there are two options:

  1. Your product has an ExpressCard/34 version, purchase that and you can use the M4500.
  2. Go for the Dell M6500 instead, which supports the ExpressCard/54 standard.
