Is there totally free X Server(Window Manager) for Windows XP ? Open-source would be nice.. I searched through the web, and I must pay or donate :(

Something like this http://www.straightrunning.com/XmingNotes/#head-131

It would be nice, if it doesn't need a Linux API emulation layer...

Xming is proably the best free alternative you'll find FWIW. – John T Jan 5 '11 at 8:34
Agreed - the "public domain" release of Xming, while old, is still good. – grawity Jan 5 '11 at 8:39
But note that normally "X server" and "window manager" are two distinct pieces of software: one draws stuff on your screen, the other adds window decorations. It just happens that Xming has an integrated WM, although you can easily disable it and run a WM of your choice through X11. – grawity Jan 5 '11 at 8:40
what about this: sourceforge.net/projects/vcxsrv – aksr Jan 5 '11 at 9:33
@grawity In *nix world anyway, "X server", "Window Manager" and "Window Decorator" can sometimes (not always) be three distinct things. E.g., someone might be using Xorg as their X server, Compiz as Window Manager, and Emerald as Window decorator. – frabjous Jan 5 '11 at 19:29
