Possible Duplicate:
Ascii text diagrams

I have seen many neat block diagrams created using ASCII art. I was wondering if there is any software that is specifically meant fro creating block diagrams.

JavE is one I've used a little bit. Since it's written in Java it's cross-platform.

                        _,,......__
                   _.-'' ``-._
                 ,' `.
               ,' `.
      +-------+---------. |

Perhaps there is, here is something that goes the other direction. IMHO a big part of the prestige of doing ASCII diagrams is being able to say you did it by hand. Plus its just a quick and dirty method of getting a point across. Most of the ones I've seen I know where done by hand. I've made several by hand myself. Just takes practice.

I think there is a big difference too in the purpose of doing ASCII art diagrams. With a program like visio or dia, you are often trying to brainstorm a layout. But when you use ASCII art, its usually because you're trying to show something already laid out to someone else via e-mail.
