Is it so depended on architecture? Because I notice some overclocked desktop CPUs outperform noticeably other desktop CPUs but laptop CPUs on 2000MHz aren't necessarily very different from Desktop CPUs of 3-3.5GHz of a slightly older architecture.

Yes, yes it is. – Ignacio Vazquez-Abrams Jan 11 '11 at 18:38
It is also dependant on the use you put it to. Different uses highlight different bottlenecks in the system. – Tog Jan 11 '11 at 18:47
You really need to give an example. Why you think this. – barlop Jan 11 '11 at 19:08
You'll need to find some evidence. Desktop processors have a higher power draw, and are more powerful clock for clock. if you have a 3GHz mobile cpu and pit it against a 3GHz desktop one (of the same cpu family), the desktop one will outperform it. – Jay_Booney Jan 11 '11 at 19:31
