When trying to install programs using Installshield Wizard, the Wizard freezes with the green progress bar less then halfway full. After a long time I get an errormsg: Object reference not set Error number: 0x80040706. How can this be fixed?

We need more details, can you check the log file in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp? – Tom Wijsman Jan 27 '11 at 0:15
Unless it is located in a subfolder in Temp, there is no log file. I deleted the Temp folder recently while trying various methods of solving the issue. – Tarciryan Jan 28 '11 at 5:52
