I have 4 accounts set up in Adium, 1 AIM and 3 XMPP, I also have an XMPP account running in iChat. There is a commonality across all of these accounts:

The buddy list/roster is an absolute mess on every single one of them.

I remember finding some roster management web application some time ago, but my Google-fu seems to be weak, otherwise the site languished.

Are there any good utilities out there, for Web, or for Desktop (I'm running OSX), that are either:

  1. Dedicated to the task of robust roster management (e.g. no chat functions exist), or;
  2. The roster management facilities in $x chat client are just THAT good.

NGGHH. I should be able to answer this, but I can't! Okay, let me ask: What should that roster management have that usual clients haven't? Multi-Select? Drag&Drop? – sinni800 Jan 28 '11 at 8:48
Yes, and yes, though I think most all clients have the latter. At least any I've ever used have. Multi-select and dropping in one massive group, filtering on name for easy client finding. Sane initial ordering of contacts, whether that means obeying current groups, or not, just showing everything alphabetically, initially. I imagine some iTunes like filtering where you have preset filter "modes" you can work off of. Perhaps also some kind of easy way to use active data (who's offline/online) in addition to the full roster list has some great opportunity of application too. – VxJasonxV Jan 30 '11 at 8:02
You know what's scary? iChat might be the closest thing to doing this, because it doesn't unify it's contact list, and it does AIM and XMPP. I'm intrigued by this fact. – VxJasonxV Feb 9 '11 at 0:28
