I'm looking for a 802.11g wireless access point and I'm interested in POE because I want to mount it high on a wall where power isn't available.

Can I get some feedback from anyone who has done this successfully (range, etc) and any recommendations on brands or models that work good.

Cisco WAP4410N Wireless-N Access Point - PoE/Advanced Security

lets you connect Wireless-N (802.11n), Wireless-G (802.11g), and Wireless-B (802.11b) devices to your wired network, making it easy to provide wireless access in the workplace. Power over Ethernet (PoE) support makes the access point easy to install - you can mount it anywhere, even without ready access to a power plug. With appropriate PoE support at the other end, such as a PoE switch, you need to run only one cable to the access point to deliver both data and power.

Are you using this? does it have more power if it is plugged in? – Bob Aug 18 '09 at 4:49
Have not used it, but I suspect the Adapter would be useful when you do not have PoE at the other end (rather than being able to boost WiFi strength). – nik Aug 18 '09 at 5:35

After a few days of normal operation, the AP hangs. Typically during a large file transfer. To fix, I have to power cycle the device. myciscocommunity.com/thread/3688?start=105&tstart=0 – user3568 Jan 25 '10 at 1:33

I'm using NETGEAR's WG602 and it is doing great. You can replace the shipped antenna by an external antenna with e.g. 10m of cable between the access point and the antenna. By this means you can place the antenna to an optimal point without necessarily having a power outlet near to that point.
