Why can't I boot from an Ubuntu USB Stick on my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi 1536 Laptop?

My hard-disk crashed, an while waiting to replace/fix it I want to use a bootable Ubuntu USB stick to continue working.

Ubuntu LiveCD and LiveUSB are both working, but I cannot boot on my laptop with the Stick containing a real Ubuntu installation.
I tried the stick on other computers, there it works.

I changed the boot-order in Bios, moving everything that has USB in the name to the top.
I tried to boot from everyone of the three USB ports.

Nothing worked.

(I use Ubuntu Maverick 10.10 as operating system on the stick)

What could I try else?

Will that Ubuntu stick boot on any other PC? – Moab Feb 3 '11 at 17:10
Yes, it does boot on other PC's. My Laptop is rather old, and the other PC's I tested are rather new. Maybe that could be the source of the problem? – Pit Feb 4 '11 at 5:48
