Windows Live Messenger is flaky on my machine. I need to install a replacement that allows me to communicate with my Windows Live Messenger contacts, AND retain the Group Chat functionality.

I installed Pidgin but it apparently does not support Windows Live Messenger chat groups. Any advice?

Chat groups are working for me, using Pidgin 2.7.9. Right click on a contact and do "initiate chat". You get a different window from the normal IM window, and you can add as many people as you wish to the chat.

I have a pre-existing chat group added in Windows Live, and that's the functionality I need to keep. – Mike C. Feb 4 '11 at 14:25
