I have a 2010 MBP that has been a test of patience since I got it about 6 months ago. The main issue has been the tendency to lock up solid when I unplug an external monitor or data projector, close the lid, and re-open the lid. But that's not my current problem. I mention it only in case it is relevant.

I'm writing now to ask for help with repeated kernal panics over the past three days. I've had four of them since Saturday (today being Monday). Every time I have been online, every time Firefox has been open. Once I was on skype, and the last three times I was downloading large files (two different ones--I never did get the first one).

I didn't have the presence of mind to save the first KP report, but I've got the last three. Below is there most recent one. I have performed fsck -fy a few different times, and each time received a clean bill of health. I ran the hardware test on disk 2 of the install disks that came with the machine, and it reported that the hardware is fine. I ran TechTool Pro and got the same result. So I assume it's a driver issue, or a kext problem. Through a regular Mac update I recently updated the driver for my Brother printer. I also installed a Cisco VPN client a couple of weeks ago. Since the last kernal panic an hour or so ago I uninstalled the ciscoVPN kext, because of what I read in another thread on this site. I'd rather do without the VPN than lose my ability to network this computer. Any guidance would be welcome. I'd hate to lose the time I'll lose if I have to erase the hdd, and I gather from what I've read that that is not a sure fire fix in any event.

Here's the KP report:

It's blaming Firefox in this particular instance. What happens if you use a different browser? – Randolph West Feb 9 '11 at 5:09
@Randolph Potter I pretty much always use Firefox, so I can't answer your question. But lately Thunderbird and FF have stopped reliably communicating. What happens is that clicking a link within an email note in Tbird results in the FF menu bar appearing above Tbird (despite being FF and Tbird being assigned different spaces) but no browser window opens and the link is inaccessible except by cutting and pasting. Am I correct in thinking that you find it blaming FF because of the "BSD process name ..." line? If so, FF was named once before, CheckAgent once, and I didn't save the first report. – rdc Feb 9 '11 at 13:49
That is my supposition, yes. I'm inclined to think your Firefox / Thunderbird setup may be at fault, but I'll blame Java before I blame those two directly. – Randolph West Feb 10 '11 at 0:57
