I have a Compaq Mini 110 netbook. 16GB SSD drive, 512MB RAM, XP etc etc. I use it at work as a phone (using Gizmo5, Skype, Google Voice etc) and at home as browse station. It really isn't up to "serious" work, but for the purposes I have for it, it's working just fine.

Except for the battery. Quite honestly, I can sit in the living room, browsing with the netbook plugged in and watching TV, unplug it to carry it to the bedroom, and have it die before I have it connected to power there.

I see widely variable prices on Google for a replacement battery, and I'm considering whether it would be better to get a new one and hand this thing down to the kids as-is. I mean, it's a few years old and Moore's Law suggests that the replacement would smoke it, but for the purposes I give it, it works just fine. Except the battery.

Suggestions? Recommendations? Arguments?

I would go for the upgrade, let the kids have the old one to use as a desktop. – Moab Feb 10 '11 at 17:52
