When I send a message it shows up in the Sent messages, and then a few seconds later it shows up in the Inbox messages. This is driving me crazy!!

are you sending a copy to yourself? (ie. are either the Cc or Bcc options checked) – Jay_Booney Feb 12 '11 at 20:27
This happens if you're using Google Apps for your domain. Is that what you've done? – Randolph West Feb 12 '11 at 22:32
