I have two folders on my desktop where I keep links and shortcuts that I frequently use. I prefer each of these folders to show a 'medium icon' when Windows Explorer shows the folder contents. I use the 'customize' tab from the Properties menu option to set the a) kind of folder = All items; and b) Views menu - Medium Icons.

However, my Vista Windows fails to retain these settings when I reboot. Instead, after reboot, the links in the folder are arranged line-by-line with small icons. How do I make my settings for these folders persistent over boots?

Try holding down the shift key and closing each folder after you've set up to display the way you want. This was how you got folders to remember their settings in older versions of Windows. – martineau Feb 15 '11 at 16:41
Thanks, but Vista seems to 'hold' & respond to my user setting during the current session on my laptop -- then after reboot, Vista 'forgets' what I'd set it to. – Rolnik Feb 28 '11 at 21:28
