I need to install raptor2 which isn't currently available at macports.

What's the best way to compile and install software which isn't supported by macports, so that it coexists?

Can I install it in such a way that makes use of it's dependencies in my macport install?

Both Fink and Homebrew also only offer Raptor 1.4.x – Daniel Beck Feb 16 '11 at 15:54
@Daniel: brew edit raptor, paste in the new download url and wipe the MD5. Instant Homebrew upgrade to libraptor2. Bonus points for opening a pull request on GitHub to make the upgrade universal. – Sharpie Feb 24 '11 at 3:16
