I am trying to create my own podcast and I am looking to put a website up for it. I want to test it online. I don't need to upload the podcast files, just put up my site from my hard drive. I have looked at a couple of places, like google sites, but I have not found where I can upload my own HTML/CSS files. I do not want those pre-formatted websites.

Any ideas?

Excellent free hosting services (trust me, I've tried dozens of them):

http://www.x10hosting.com (2.5 gb of space, 45 gb of bandwidth)

http://www.byethost.com (5.5 gb of space, 200 gb of bandwidth)

The last time I checked them, they didn't force any ads or pre-formatted pages and had PHP, MySQL support.

EDIT: I saw the other answer about Freehostia. The problem with them is that they have a 500 kb/file upload limit.

Thanks!!! I really appreciate it! These look great! – tnbrewer Aug 18 '09 at 19:01
Going to x10hosting.com/freehosting.php the supposed offer of 2.5GB of space/45GB of bandwidth gets reduced to 500MB of space/10GB of bandwidth. Have they suddenly changed their offer? – Isxek Aug 18 '09 at 23:06
Interesting, I don't really know because I'm on paid hosting now. Anyway, 500 mb of space and 10 gb of bandwidth is not bad anyways :) – kai Aug 19 '09 at 13:52

I would recommend Freehostia. I used them before I started paying for real hosting, and I had a great experience with them. The free plan includes 250MB storage, 6GB bandwidth, 1 MySQL database, email, and no injected advertising. They have great uptime for a free host, too, I've never actually seen one of their servers down.

I've been using NearlyFreeSpeech.net (NFS) now for a year now. In my opinion; if you want a solid place to host your website without having to deal with a big corporate hosting company, this is the place.

By the way their pricing system is very unique. It cost me about $3.00 to run my website for a few months. You only pay for what you use.

This review should help you decide.
