For instance, I want to leave my notebook close by the house intercom so when it "hears" t ringing, which is a very specific and unique sound, it will send me an email at my office or something.

I believe the main difficulty is that there's a lot of different noises there... But none would be as loud as the intercom for the specific place I'de leave the microphone.

Can it be done? On a mac? How?

I never realized this got closed. Do you know why, @KronoS? How's this not related to computer software or hardware? Can I do something to improve it and reopen? – cregox Oct 6 '13 at 0:13
First off, I wasn't the only one that voted to close, just happened to be the first. Second, at the time of my vote, this was clearly a request for software which is strictly prohibited via the help. While your edit now changes that, I'm still hesitant to re-open due to the nature of this question is very broad and will be difficult to solve. It's also a very unique question that won't be very helpful to others in the future. Don't get me wrong, it's an interesting problem just not one I believe for SU. – KronoS Oct 7 '13 at 14:47
@KronoS As you see, the edited question is basically the same... It was just a matter of using "nicer" words. I edited it thanks to an e-mail someone sent me asking if I had found a solution, and he pointed me to why it was closed when I mentioned it. For that email alone (I hardly ever receive emails like that), I don't think it's so unique. And it sure will be helpful to others, how can you say it won't? I just never thought this would be an original idea... I was really hoping there is something out there to do it already! In any case, thanks for the feedback. :) – cregox Oct 7 '13 at 16:11
