I have a few folders with randomly assorted music files,
I am looking for a tool or utility that can read the ID3 tags and then build and populate a folder structure in the format:

some dir/Artist/songs*

Ive used MediaMonkey in Windows, but Im not sure what the is for Linux.

Picard Musicbrainz is a good program for what you need. You can use it on Linux as well as Windows.

check out SortTv, its designed for sorting downloaded TV shows, but it also works for music

I use it in Ubuntu.
