Another title for this post can be: "Where to find a Yahoo! tech support who knows what he is doing?"

I am writing to this forum because I have totally run out of options. I don't know whom to contact. Yahoo! tech support seems to be filled with people who either don't read what I am writing, or choose to ignore it and just read what they want to read.

I have had this problem for several weeks now. If I try to login to Yahoo! using login.yahoo.com or mail.yahoo.com, I get either of the two error messages: (1) "This id is not yet registered. Are you trying to register for one, etc..", if I use my yahoo.com ID to login. (2) "There was an error, please sign in again with the same ID or a different one", if I use my google.com ID to login.

In the latter case there is an error code of 100 in the URL. No error code is displayed for the first case.

Now here is the funny part. If I use a SOCKS proxy located in another country like Japan, I can login into my Yahoo! account without any problem. So obviously my ID exists and my password has no problem.

I have exchanged atleast 20 mails with Yahoo! support to date on this matter. They insist on making me change my password or resetting my password, and one even suggested me to change my Google password!

I am at my wit's end. Someone, if you know somebody in Yahoo! technical staff who know what they are doing, please direct me to them. This is unbelievable. HELP!!

Note that I have already tried all OS and browser combinations, clearing my cache and cookies, and even changed my password by proxying through another country. – Cocoro Cara Mar 4 '11 at 0:35
Have you tried a different computer, from a different location - like a neighbors computer? – therube Mar 4 '11 at 3:35
Are you running (normally) through a proxy? Using an alternative DNS service? Router? HOSTS file? If proxy, try direct. If alternative DNS, try default. If router, bypass & connect direct. If HOSTS file, disable. – therube Mar 4 '11 at 3:43
Yes. I have tried from various locations (home, office, school, friends homes) and from many different computers, browsers, OS. I have a direct connection, no proxy. When I use a socks proxy in another country, I can login. Moreover, this problem only started a few weeks ago. – Cocoro Cara Mar 4 '11 at 4:48
* BUMP * Note that this problem is not yet solved. Yahoo! support sent me another email assuring me that someone is looking into it but nothing further. Another piece of data for you to debug this is that I CANNOT log in when proxying through the UK. But CAN log in when proxying through Japan. So probably I get redirected to the same server on the East coast when proxying through the UK as when logging in locally. – Cocoro Cara Mar 15 '11 at 17:14

Does this link allow you to log in? (Note, it will look different.)

Nope. Cannot login. "Invalid ID/Password error." Just to make sure, I just proxied in through Japan, and could log in. The server it redirected me to was us.mc1210.mail.yahoo.com – Cocoro Cara Mar 4 '11 at 1:27
Moreover if I proxy the URL provided by you through Japan, I can log in. It just takes me to us.m.yahoo.com/p/mail? – Cocoro Cara Mar 4 '11 at 1:30
