For recording videos, I found that
Kdenlive is a good editor although you should frequently save your work because it sometimes wants to crash:

You can try xvidcap, an open source screen capture tool for Linux. I have not used it so I can't vouch for how well it works.

There's not much alternatives for Linux, especially when it comes to editing recorded video. You can try and choose for your self from the list here: http://alternativeto.net/software/camtasia-studio/?platform=linux

Kazam Screencaster is a great program in my opinion. Sometimes it has trouble with audio (but also the thing I am recording can have issues which happens more often than Kazam having issues) and it works directly with Open Shot Video Editor in Ubuntu. I run Ubuntu 11.10 and its absolutely fantastic. I use it to capture my Vokle.com shows to edit and shorten for my YouTube Channel.
