Will response rate make a difference? What is good brightness? What is a good contrast ratio?

Definitely there are other things to look for, so please give me your opinion.

Also, what screen size is good for reading? What size would you choose from 17-22? I'm thinking of getting one 17-19 for reading, and one 22 for movies. Or maybe 2 22" one vertical and one horizontal is better?

I think I should look for lower native res., right?

I loved my very high DPI laptop a when I was a teenager with perfect eyesight. Now, I zoom web pages and increase font sizes all the time. At least that last part of your question is simply subjective. –  Daniel Beck Mar 6 '11 at 16:12

I just meant lower to an extent for sure; I just wanted to know if it is a good thing, unlike what it would sound like. –  wajed Mar 6 '11 at 16:19

Having two monitors that are the same size will definitely make things simpler with dealing with screen layout because they can line up nicely.

As far as what's best for contrast, brightness, size, etc., that's something you'll have to experiment with to determine what works best for you. All monitors have these features, but of course a physically larger screen is usually nicer to work with (price goes up with larger screens though, so this could be a limiting factor for you too).
