I'm appalled at the lack of usability Acrobat 9, Pencil tool. Can it really be this bad?

 • When inking, the default behavior is to SELECT AND MOVE existing ink, instead of writing over it
 • The only way to stop ink from moving is to right click and LOCK it
 • The ink tool's precision is far inferior to OneNote's smooth accurate precision. Drawing an equal sign usually ends up giving you an awkward closed "c".

I can't believe a product as esteemed as Acrobat has inking tools this bad. Say it ain't so.

There's a tool called AutoInk; but it doesn't seem to work on my Acrobat 9/Win 7 system (no ink appears, apparent bug), plus it costs $50, even if it did work. Looking for native adobe stuff. All I really want is to turn off selection of ink by the Ink tool. – bobobobo Mar 19 '11 at 3:01
I have an answer now. 2 things. Installing Windows 7 SP1 seems to have improved pen performance and accuracy, and reduced the = as c problem. Now, simply inking somewhere else on the page (where there is no ink), which seems to flip the pen tool back to "inking" mode. Now if you quickly ink again over your old ink, you won't move the ink, but place ink down instead. Waiting more than 2 seconds will cause the pen to behave as a move tool again if you touchdown on ink though. – bobobobo Apr 11 '11 at 15:40

tap alt once before starting your next pencil. It'll change to a white arrow and look like it's not going to draw pencil marks, but it will.

No, pressing ALT makes no difference (same behaviour as if you did not press alt) – bobobobo Apr 11 '11 at 15:43
