I have a Western Digital WD3200BEKT drive in my laptop. It's always made this random clicking noise. I'm pretty confident that it's not a click of death because I've run multiple diagnostics on it and they all come out okay.

I've also tried disabling APM and AAM, and I've used utilities like Quiet HDD. I'm very close to just replacing the drive, but I thought I'd ask if anyone here has any better ideas?

Thanks!

Does it click all the time or just when you start it up? My WD drives make a nasty sound on startup but are fine after that. – Arctor Mar 24 '11 at 4:19
What would be useful is if you could somehow record the sound for us so we can listen to it and give you our thoughts. – Majenko Mar 24 '11 at 8:54
This may sound a little over-defensive, but any clicking sound a hard drive makes I consider a bad one. – Breakthrough Mar 25 '11 at 11:02
It clicks randomly. It doesn't seem to have any impact on the system when it does click. I will try to record the sound. @Breakthrough - I agree, I'm getting very close to just purchasing a new drive... I could use more space anyway. – Dave Mar 31 '11 at 2:02
